Join us as we study the Word of Life

Sunday School

Nursery is available for babies and toddlers.

K3-K5 – Teachers: Lynn Timmerman

Our 1st-3rd graders meet on the 3rd floor of the FBC Kids Building and are learning about God through weekly Bible lessons and activities.

4th-6th Grade – Teachers: Mary Graham

Our 4th-6th graders are also meeting on the 3rd floor of the FBC Kids Building and dig into God’s word weekly.

7th-12th Grade – Teacher: Chris Oxendine & Chris Welch

Our youth meet in the Blue House and are learning to apply God’s word to their daily lives through lessons and discussion.

Prelude Class – Teachers: Amy Ricketts

This class is for college students, single adults, and young married couples. They meet on the 1st Floor of Education Building and are an informal, small group Bible study covering various biblical/spiritual topics but concentrating on discipleship and helping each other grow a personal relationship with Christ and the other members of the group.

Shepherd’s Flock – Teachers: Luke Simmons & Tim Hall & Chris Guire

This class is for our middle-aged adults, married or single, and meet in the Sanctuary of the Christian Life Center. Even though they’re a larger class, they have an intimate setting with flock groups, spending time together in prayer, at social get-togethers, and through mentoring.

Koinonia – Teacher: Allen Kolb

A mixed Sunday School class of singles and couples ages mid-fifties. They meet on the 2nd floor of the Sanctuary Building and are focused on discipleship and Bible study. Koinonia is a Greek word meaning “fellowship” or “communion” and was used in Acts 2: 42-47 to describe the sharing and fellowship that existed in the early church.

For Senior Adults. They meet on the 1st floor of the Sanctuary Building and currently walking through different books of the Bible.

Community Outreach

At First Baptist, we try our best to help when we hear of a need. Our Truth In Action volunteers build handicap accessible ramps and do other repairs as they can for the Abbeville community, and a bi-annual Day of Caring is held where the deacons and others assist in yard clean-up, spring cleaning, and more for our members and others in the community.

We have a local prison ministry, where we conduct services and Bible studies, hand out Bibles and literature, provide occasional refreshments, and help with the prisoners’ needs as we are able.

During the summer we put on a Vacation Bible school in the evenings, open to the community, where we offer food, music, recreation, worship, Bible study, and missionary stories. During the school year, we partner with South Side Baptist to offer a Good News Club after school hours at Westwood Elementary.

Occasionally we host community block parties—either in our parking lot or at the Livery Stable on the Square—with food and bounce houses to have some fun fellowship and have another opportunity to meet our community kids and invite them to church or special events.

We also support several outside ministries and churches, such as UCMAC, Abbeville Youth Center, sister churches in Columbia, SC, and Utah, Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, an orphanage in Rwanda, and more.

We want to reach our community and our world for Christ.
