Community Outreach
Join us as we share the Word of LifeCommunity Outreach
At First Baptist, we try our best to help when we hear of a need. Our Truth In Action volunteers build handicap accessible ramps and do other repairs as they can for the Abbeville community, and a bi-annual Day of Caring is held where the deacons and others assist in yard clean-up, spring cleaning, and more for our members and others in the community.
During the summer we put on a Vacation Bible school in the evenings, open to the community, where we offer food, music, recreation, worship, Bible study, and missionary stories. During the school year, we partner with South Side Baptist to offer a Good News Club after school hours at Westwood Elementary.
Occasionally we host community block parties—either in our parking lot or at the Livery Stable on the Square—with food and bounce houses to have some fun fellowship and have another opportunity to meet our community kids and invite them to church or special events.
We also support several outside ministries and churches, such as UCMAC, Abbeville Youth Center, sister churches in Columbia, SC, and Utah, Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, an orphanage in Rwanda, and more.
We want to reach our community and our world for Christ.
Rick Morris
Prison Ministry Leader
The Prison Ministry is a combined effort by local churches to bring the Gospel to those incarcerated at the county Detention Center in Abbeville. The program consists of two Bible studies, Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 PM and a church service on Sundays at 8:30 AM. Services are rotated between the participating churches, but First Baptist participates every Thursday and at least one Sunday a month or more. We provide Bibles, religious reading materials, assistance when needed, and an annual Christmas get together with a meal, gift, and message.
Rescued and Restored
What is Rescued and Restored?
During this service, you will be lead in Praise and Worship, have an intercession for Food and Fellowship, and most important – The Word!! You will have the opportunity to hear different people Testify about where God has brought them from and what he is doing in their lives today. This is not only for those who have been addicted to drugs and alcohol. This is for everyone to come and be a shoulder to the community we live and and allow God to use you to help others turn from the addictions of life.
During the year of 2024, we had the opportunity to host the Rescued and Restored Event 4 times!! This has been a very exciting year. At every event, we had over 200 people gathered together for one purpose – to find a closer walk with God. There’s only ONE true choice in this life when making the choice for an eternity in Heaven and His name is Jesus!!! So many people over this past year have taken a leap of faith and asked to be Baptized. Therefore, there have been 3 Baptism services this year and another one is scheduled for November 1st. Baptism is a time of taking the next step of faith with an outward commitment to serve the Lord. If you are not truly saved, you will go down a dry sinner and come up a wet sinner. It is very important to give your life to Christ and put him first in all things. He gave His all for you!!!
Come and be a part of these awesome services!!!We are looking forward to the Events next year. Stay tuned for the upcoming dates.
