Adult Ministry
Join us as we study the Word of LifeAdult Ministry
Men’s Ministry
Our men’s group meets on the first and third Monday at 6:30pm for a relaxing time of food, Bible study, and fellowship.
First Baptist also participates in the events put on by the Lakelands Baptist Association, including the Lakelands Men’s Ministry, which holds four events a year at various churches in the area.
Women’s Ministry
We have three women’s groups who meet under the umbrella of the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) (Circle of Faith, Circle of Grace, and Baptist Young Women/BYW). They cover various ages, meet once a month on different days, at different times/locations. But all of them are focused on missions—praying for our missionaries, taking on missions’ projects, and reaching out to our community. If you’re interested in joining a group or learning more about them, contact the church office.
First Baptist also participates in the events put on by the Lakelands Baptist Association, including the Lakelands Women’s Ministry, which holds two events a year at various churches in the area.
Upcoming Event:
Senior Adult Ministry – Forever young
We have an active senior adult ministry. Come join us as Forever Young (senior adults, from any ages “between 50 and 105″) takes occasional day trips, go out to eat, and do two longer Jubilee trips/year to the beach and to the mountains.
For our homebound members and those living in assisted living/nursing homes, we have Hearts In Action, which are volunteers who minister to them regularly through services, visits, and birthday celebrations.

Community Outreach
At First Baptist, we try our best to help when we hear of a need. Our Truth In Action volunteers build handicap accessible ramps and do other repairs as they can for the Abbeville community, and a bi-annual Day of Caring is held where the deacons and others assist in yard clean-up, spring cleaning, and more for our members and others in the community.
We have a local prison ministry, where we conduct services and Bible studies, hand out Bibles and literature, provide occasional refreshments, and help with the prisoners’ needs as we are able.
During the summer we put on a Vacation Bible school in the evenings, open to the community, where we offer food, music, recreation, worship, Bible study, and missionary stories. During the school year, we partner with South Side Baptist to offer a Good News Club after school hours at Westwood Elementary.
Occasionally we host community block parties—either in our parking lot or at the Livery Stable on the Square—with food and bounce houses to have some fun fellowship and have another opportunity to meet our community kids and invite them to church or special events.
We also support several outside ministries and churches, such as UCMAC, Abbeville Youth Center, sister churches in Columbia, SC, and Utah, Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, an orphanage in Rwanda, and more.
We want to reach our community and our world for Christ.
